Amazing, Hilarious, Tragic and Fascinating.
'The Sydney Gazette' ran from 1803 to 1842. It was a lively tabloid, full of extraordinary human interest stories, of accidents, commercial activities, recipes, bushrangers, convict escapes, women's fashions and a thousand other details. Together they make up a unique portrait of colonial Australia.
This first volume of selected short extracts covers the rackety period to 1810, when Governor Macquarie arrived and Sydney became more respectable. A second volume is planned and will cover the Macquarie period.
