When it comes to hardcore psychadelia, few bands can touch The Doors. For a time in the late '60s and early '70s, their hard-edged rock-folk, delivered by self-styled Lizard King Jim Morrison, spoke the thoughts and beliefs of a generation of disaffected youth. In an age when the spectre of Vietnam loomed and McCarthyism bred its own species of thoughtcrime, Morrison's angry posturing, combined with the band's unique artistic vision, provided a stinging salve for a nation undergoing rebirth.
