Mr Biswa's lifelong dream is to have a house of his own. Born at an inauspicious hour when the omens are bad, he spends his life stuggling to find his place in an insensitive world. He is forced by poverty to live with his overpowering, superstitious in-laws, the wealthy Tulsi family, ruled by its despotic matriarch Mrs Tulsi. Although not rebellious by nature, he nevertheless makes a solitary stand against the Tulsi's rituals and conventions, and never loses sight of his goal: to escape from them to the house of his dreams.
