Illustrated by Quentin Blake.
This classic adventure story, first printed in English as 'The Arabian Nights Entertainments' in 1712, has been adapted with humour and imagination for a new generation of modern children. The story begins after the brave sailor has eventually returned from his voyages, safe and considerably richer than he was, and he recounts his hair-raising experiences at sea to a poor porter. Sinbad tells of his encounter with a gigantic bird which carries him through the air; his escape from a monstrous one-eyed giant; and the terrible tale of the Old Man of the Sea who climbs onto his back and refuses to get off.
Quentin Blake's lively and spontaneous style of drawing is ideally suited to the fantastic elements of these epic adventures. His quick line and sparkling watercolour washes capture the extraordinary creatures and exotic places, giving a fresh new look to a favourite tale.
