Pallant House Gallery is a remarkable hybrid: one of the most important collections of modern British Art is housed in a Queen-Anne townhouse dating from 1712, which has a contemporary wing designed by Long oKentish architects in association with Colin St John Wilson. The More...result is unique and enthralling. Pallant House was the first of its style in Chichester, UK, and was regarded as very modern in its day, finished inside and out by fine-quality craftsmanship. The new wing pays tribute to this quality, with the plans setting out to preserve and emphasise the historic house as an architectural entity. Pallant House Gallery: Art Spaces tells the story of how a Queen-Anne townhouse and the new wing have been united in a way which enables each to keep its unique identity, whilst providing improved and enlarged display spaces and fully accessible public facilities, including a beautiful garden.
