'Pain Management' is a unique book written by a patient - (herself a chronic pain sufferer for over four decades) - for patients. Over five years the author undertook over one hundred interviews with families in Australia, France and England. She also sought the advice of numerous medical and other health professionals from a wide range of disciplines.
Written in plain language, 'Pain Management' explains the effect of pain on the human nervous system. It gives medical and psychological strategies with which to learn to live with pain. It discusses the suffering both of physical and emotional on the whole family when one of its members in unwell and unable to participate in usual activities. It teaches patients how to communicate with practitioners, to be assertive yet polite, to seek a second opinion without damaging relationships with other treating practitioners and suggests the consideration of complementary therapies.
