THE FIRST NOVEL IN THE BESTSELLING OUTLANDER SERIES - soon to be a major new TV series.
Claire Randall is leading a double life. She has a husband in one century - and a lover in another.
In 1945, Claire Randall is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon in Scotland. Innocently she walks through a stone circle in the Highlands, and finds herself in a violent skirmish taking place in 1743. Suddenly she is a Sassenach, an outlander, in a country torn by war and by clan feuds.
A wartime nurse, Claire can deal with the bloody wounds that face her. But it is harder to deal with the knowledge that she is in Jacobite Scotland and the carnage of Culloden is looming. Marooned amid the passion and violence, the superstition, the shifting allegiances and the fervent loyalties, Claire is in danger from Jacobites and Redcoats - and from the shock of her own desire for James Fraser, a gallant and courageous young Scots warrior. Jamie shows her a passion so fierce and a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire, and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Add to Cart Outlander Cross stitch When I first heard about this series I was skeptical Fantasy is not usually a genre I enjoy and the time travel really put me off. I am so glad that I started this series Diana Gabaldon has thoroughly researched both time periods exceptionally well and the characterization of both Claire and Jamie makes you feel that you are truly living their love story. You as the reader experience how torn Claire feels between her husband Frank in the modern day and Jamie in the past, the imagery of the battles and war wounds and the confusion of how to handle the lack of modern facilities both as a woman and a nurse. From the first chapter of the first book you cannot put the series down I truly cannot say anything bad about the Outlander books and with the TV series now out, there is an extra incentive to give it a go, you won't regret it. Cross stitch While honeymooning in Scotland, wartime nurse Claire is taken back in time from 1945 to 1743. This book is not what you think. It's a little bit romance, a little bit sci-fifantasy and a little bit historical. It's very well researched. The story of Claire and the man she meets in 1743, James Fraser will keep you reading all night. Soon to be released as a TV series. Reviewed by 30cs Guest , 18/08/2014
