Outer Dark

Set in an unnamed part of Appalachia, sometime around the turn of the century, this is a grand, mythic tale of love and loss from one of America's finest and most celebrated authors. The story begins as a woman bears her brother's child, a boy: he leaves the baby in the woods and tells her he died of natural causes. Discovering her brother's lie, she sets forth alone to find her son. Confronted in turn by terrifying strangers, both brother and sister are pulled headlong towards an eerie, apocalyptic resolution.
