Dr Marissa Blumenthal is a recently qualified member of Atlanta's renowned Centre for Disease Control, yet to put her skills to the test in the field. But when a mysterious viral outbreak occurs in Los Angeles, she has no time for self-doubt, finding herself plunged into a desperate race to contain a lethal virus for which there is no known cure.
Then outbreaks occur across the States, all seemingly unconnected except for one bizarre similarity: the victims are always only the doctors and patients of clinics offering low-cost medical care.
