The Evolution Of Continents, Oceans And Life
The Earth is slowly but constantly changing from within. Over the last 700 million years continents have come and gone, oceans have been formed and destroyed and the climate has radically changed, along with the global level of the sea. These changes have been caused by tiny incremental crustal movement on the surface of the Earth, along with its intermittently reversing magnetic field, its tilt and wobble and the irregularity of its orbit around the sun. In this unstable context multicellular life has evolved, via crisis, response and adaption.
All of these developments, from the formation of the first oceans and land-masses to the forms of life - extinct as well as surviving - have left physical evidence behind, much of which exists in vast and inaccessible geological sites, photographed for the first time with equipment invented by the author, and his images illustrate this compelling story of the life of our planet. This book includes stunning interpretive panoramic landscape photos taken around the world.
