A sleepwalking girl inadvertently starts a parade on Mayfest (the first of May).
The lass, with hair like a nest, is followed by a dove, who is pursued by a huntsmen, who is frightened by a mouse, who is chased by a cat, who is trapped by a dog, who is scolded by a laundress, who gets entangled with jugglers juggling fruit, who play with a monkey in tunic and boots, who dances with children, who are serenaded by a minstrel, who is kissed by a milkmaid. . . .
Thus begins a series of kisses all the way back down the line, until out pops a hatchling in the girl's nest of hair.
