When Emma's grandfather, Old Bob, is given a teddy bear, she sees immediately that he is not going to love the bear as much as she would. So she persuades Old Bob to 'lend' her the bear, a loan that lasts a very long time, as the bear goes with her on picnics and trips to the beach.
When Old Bob finally gets to see that bear again, a long time later, he realises just what it is to have a precious favourite toy.
