In September 2009, the BBC announced, via The One Show, that they were launching a nationwide competition for the best stories: true life adventures, love stories, triumphs over adversity. The idea behind the competition was to get the nation sharing stories, writing them and get communities talking and reading. The idea is to feature the fifteen finalists to appear in a much publicised six-week prime time BBC1 to air in the summer.
Fifteen finalists will be handpicked from over 7,000 entries by a panel that will include Kate Mosse, author of the bestselling Labyrinth, award winning writer and broadcaster Fergal Keane and novelist Jenny Colgan. Three finalists will appear in each of the five shows. The winning entry will have their book published the day after the show airs. The sixth show will name the overall winner.
Each of the five episodes will feature a different celebrity presenter: Ronan Keating, Maureen Lipman, George Alagiah, Christine Bleakley and Frank Gardner.
