Norman Parkinson: A Very British Glamour is the most lavish and comprehensive book ever published on the work of the legendary and influential fashion photographer, Norman Parkinson. This is a monograph covering all seven decades of Parkinson's work. Author Louise Baring takes us on a vivid journey through Parkinson's life, from his early studio days to his pioneering location work in which he shot fashion "stories" in such daring and adventurous places as Red Square and the Grand Canyon. Through these fashion stories, Baring explores Parkinson's unique sense of style and fashion within the social context of each decade. The book is organized chronologically, decade by decade from the 1920s through the 1980s, and covers Parkinson's entire photography career (including his portraits of the British royal family, among others). But the book focuses primarily on Parkinson's fashion photography, including his work for Vogue (US, Britian and Australia) and Queen, Harper's Bazaar, as well as for Life. The majority of the book is devoted to reproducing in full Parkinson's original fashion stories from these magazines (marking the first time these stories have been published together and in book form). Also included are rare never-before-published photographs featuring the many glamourous models he photographed throughout the decades.
