I absolutely LOVED this book!  This is Jessica Townsend’s second novel, the follow up instalment to wunderous ‘Nevermoor’.v There is so much richness in this book, there's battling inner demons and outer villains, singing angels and fire breathing, fear, frustration and a struggle to find ones place. I love the fact that Townsend has layered meaning within her novel, that you can take as deep as you wish, a rip roaring story or commentary about attitudes to the 'other' (particularly in this novel to 'outsiders' and those in Nevermoor illegally) and about being true to oneself even if it causes upset to those in authority, this is the kind of book children NEED to read to believe in themselves.  I also adore the fact this book avoids stereotypical tropes of crushes and romance, Morrigan isn't distracted from her self development by falling into the tween-teen romance trap. Morrigan is the centre of her own universe and this is empowering and so refreshing. In particular I love that there is so far no hint of romance nor gender preference because this shows readers that there particularly can be male-female friendships that are meaningful, deep and still platonic. There is also an earthy sense of immersion in the streets of Nevermoor because Townsend has devoted just as much attention to creating Nevermoor as she has to her characters. With a female protagonist who is real and flawed, gets angry, messes up but endeavours to be true to herself, Morrigan is a great hero for children to identify with and get behind.  It is a Wunderous story of mystery, adventure and friendship. The lovely jacket cover and hard cover are illustrated by Beatriz Castro. Perfect for 10+   - Marcelle (QBD)
