A story of triumph and tragedy.
Loud, lusty and controversial, Nene King was the Queen of the Australian magazine world. Love her or hate her, Nene King, has lived one hell of a life . . . and it's not over yet.
Nene King was queen of Australian women's magazines for over a decade as she presided over the mass market jewels of the Packer stable: 'Women's Day' and 'Australian Women's Weekly'. Hugely powerful and successful, outrageous and passionate, Nene reigned in the competitive world of magazine publishing.
Famous for her friendship with the Packer family, infamous for her publication of Fergie's toe-sucking picture, Nene's personal life has not been free from tragedy. Shortly after the death of her father, her beloved husband, Patrick, went missing while diving with some friends off Bondi. His body was never recovered.
The shock of the tragedy saw Nene end up in Narcotics Anonymous - then, the seachange. She sold her Sydney house and moved to Noosa. She took back control of her life - away from magazines; away from the scene of her deepest sadness.
As she has said, "it's a personal journey, it's all I can do, the triumphs and the tragedies. And I'm sure you learn more from my mistakes than from my achievements."
