Keighly Barrow travels to Redemption, Nevada to close up the home of her recently deceased grandmother. Although she is engaged to a very proper, self-important Doctor, it seems to Keighly that her life has been planned out for her. When she returns to her grandmothers house, childhood memories begin to surface and she remembers the boy in the mirror, and all the dreams she once had.
As a child Keighly would touch a mirror in her grandmother's home and be able to see a young boy, Darby, with whom she'd play and whisper dreams of the future. Secretly, Keighly knows she's always loved Darby, and Darby Elder feels the same way. Although she's no longer the dreamy little girl she once was, Keighly clings to the idea of a future filled with love and happiness and breaks off her engagement with Dr. Drury to enlist in a search for any thing she can learn about her mysterious Darby Elder.
When Darby's image once again appears in the mirror, Keighly is thrown back through time and finds herself in 1880s Nevada. Darby and Keighly hit it off splendidly, as they knew they always would, but before they can marry Keighly is whisked forward in time and returns to her modern-day life. A series of trips back and forth in time as well as a gunfight or two threaten to keep Darby and Keighly apart, until they are able to prove that theirs is a love that will endure the span of time.
