It's time for a modern, definitive JavaScript book. Most books currently selling were first written when JavaScript was mostly used for annoying and tedious tricks, such as alert boxes, status bar scrolls, when image rollovers and basic form validation were about as good as JavaScript got. JavaScript today is a vastly different language, primarily because of how it's being used, due to Ajax, more consistent browser support, and the rise of frameworks. Larry Ullman's JavaScript book teaches the language itself, as it is used today, without all the deadwood that's long since been left behind (and thankfully so).
