Get started by tracing and then free-motion stitching a simple contour drawing on canvas. Next, water-soluble crayons are used to colour the design (no need to stay within the lines). The colours are blended using a paintbrush, and Jeannie demonstrates basic design techniques, including how to create dimension with shadows and highlights. To build up the layers and create more interest, newsprint transfers (on organza) and transfers from colour photocopies are added. Jeannie shares two techniques for making transfers: a full image transfer and a deconstructed image transfer using a Thermofax screen. And finally, one more mixed-media element is added: stitched deli-wrap paper.
