This first book in a series introduces the main character, Pam, as she struggles with the anxieties of fitting in at school. This story is set in Alice Springs / Mparntwe where Pam lives with her grandfather, Graham. Graham struggles to support his granddaughter survive the 'sticks and stones' of being 'at odds' with the world around her. For much of this first book, Pam's parents are not part of the picture until Pam inadvertently rescues her father, Mitch, from being beaten up by henchmen in the backstreets of Alice Springs. Neither recognise each other, however, their paths are about to merge in weird and powerful ways as Pam embarks on a quest to learn more about multifaceted past. The story continues in book two.
