This is the story of Melbourne Mouse, a house mouse, who makes his way across the city of Melbourne, goes down the Mornington Peninsula, crosses Port Phillip Bay on a ferry, and returns to his home. Along the way, he meets Mornington Mouse, a native antechinus (marsupial mouse) whose ancestors have lived in the region for thousands of years, and they have some adventures together. The meeting between Melbourne Mouse and Mornington Mouse parodies a meeting between a European Australian and a traditional Aboriginal Australian. Written by David M. Welch and illustrated by Aboriginal artist Reggie Sultan.
