It began when Nahum Mantra, Arts Catalyst's Space Projects Associate, organised an expedition to Star City in Russia. He invited Mexican artists to perform artistic experiments in zero gravity. The resultant exhibition, Matters of Gravity, was on view at the Laboratorio Arte Alameda in Mexico City. A novel approach to the intersection of art and science, it explored the conceptual possibilities of future creative practices in space. The work of the nine Mexican artists that participated (Tania Candiani, Ale de la Puente, Ivan Puig, Arcangel Constantini, Fabiola Torres-Alzaga, Gilberto Esparza, Juan Jose Diaz Infante, Nahum and Marcela Armas) has been collected in this book. Their creative responses are as varied as they are innovative. This book compiles the results: video, performance, sculpture, drawing, and installation art, all revolving around the concept of weightlessness. SELLING POINTS: ?
