If you let decisions happen to you, rather than making decisions, what will happen to you? Can you become someone else without the world noticing? The novel begins with Leah telling her husband of 10 years that before they had met she had been, briefly, a prostitute in a brothel. Soon after, on his way home from work, David collapses and has surgery for water on his brain. During his recovery he meets Ben who attempts to convince David to take on someone else's identity and help Ben extract funds from untouched superannuation funds. Eventually David succumbs and gets caught up in the identity of H.H. (Harry) Green the person whose identity he has assumed for Ben. We soon discover that Harry attended a brothel in Pyrmont, that Ben owns, where Leah worked . . . Financial scams, marital trouble, mayhem and murder ensue.
