The Lost Girl is a delightful introduction for children to the Australian Impressionists, some of Australia's best-known and best-loved artists. Maddie and Will embark on an extraordinary adventure of discovery and surprise when they visit an art gallery and encounter a lost girl. The story is based on Frederick McCubbin's painting Lost which is said to have been inspired by the actual case of Clara Crosbie - a young girl who was miraculously found alive in dense bush after having gone missing for three weeks in May, 1885. Works by Charles Conder, Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton, and Jane Sutherland are also included with Tony Flowers charming drawings of Maddie, Will and other visitors to the gallery. A brief synopsis of Australian Impressionism and artist biographies are included in the endmatter.
