As an 11-year-old girl, Cynthia Owen gave birth to a little girl, without medical supervision. Her newborn baby was taken instantly from her and its young life wiped out in the most vicious and callous way imaginable. The body was found discarded in an empty alley, and later buried in an unmarked grave in Glasnevin cemetery. From early childhood Cynthia had suffered sexual abuse at the hands of her father, and been farmed out by her parents as a virtual prostitute in exchange for cigarettes and alcohol, and suffered abuse and neglect by family members and associates. She was not alone. Two of Cynthia's siblings committed suicide in later life, unable to overcome the horrors they endured as children. Twenty-two years after Noleen, her baby girl, was found stabbed to death in the laneway behind the family house in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin, Cynthia Owen came forward to say that she was her mother. LIVING WITH EVIL is a story about a stolen childhood, an account of the terrible events that lead to this tragedy and the ongoing quest for justice. This is Cynthia's story.
