The creation of Albert and Michel Roux, Le Gavroche opened in 1967. At the time it was the only French restaurant of its kind - serving classical French food with the highest standards of cooking and service - in London. The restaurant is now run by Michel Roux Jr, whose style is "modern French", or classic French cooking with a lighter and less rich approach, and subtly influenced by Mediterranean and Asian flavours and ingredients.
This book is a slice of culinary history as many of the recipes served in the restaurant today and featured in the book have been favourites on the menu for more than thirty years. The cookbook also shows how to recreate the atmosphere of the restaurant at home with advice on dining French style for both informal and formal occasions, lunch and dinner. There is advice on selecting what to drink from aperitifs to sweet wine. Tricks of the trade are given to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
'Le Gavroche Cookbook' contains 200 recipes, a selection of the best and most popular of its cooking over the last thirty years and today - seasonal recipes carefully chosen for cooking at home. With each recipe there is a recommended wine. In each season there are special menus using seasonally fresh ingredients.
In this wonderful book, Michel Roux Jr has chosen some of the finest French recipes to cook and enjoy at home.
