Although this is an autobiography, I have tried to look beyond myself and not make it a typical autobiography. With this book, and with the DeKlerks and myself as prototypes, I wish to help create perspective on the motivating forces behind the development of political attitudes - particularly within the National Party and among Afrikaners. I hope that this will contribute a more discerning view of our country's stormy history than at present prevails.
