The 9th SS Panzer Division "Hohenstaufen" is best-known for its unexpected presence at Arnhem in October 1944 and its desperate defense against the airborne landings. The division also gained considerable fame for its chivalrous treatment of wounded and captured paratroopers in the Arnhem actions. In addition, it saw extensive service on the Russian Front and its career encompassed most of the experiences, tactics, and weaponry of the classic Panzer division.
