Caz and Simon embark on their final and most dangerous quest yet, sailing to the Borders of Imagination to try and find the lost city of Atlantis. Throughout the voyage, Caz and her friends encounter mermaids, demons, a cursed Sibyl, a cannibal, Odysseus’s conflicted son, Telemachus, gods, sirens and even a colossus.

Once more, the book segues between Morphea and Doldreada (Earth). Caz’s father, Gus, is in hospital, recovering from the dreadful wound that Peleus inflicted on him at the Halloween bonfire. Simon’s six-year-old cousin Jonquil has the necklace. There is a police investigation into Caz and Simon’s disappearance, worried parents and relatives, arguments, and demons running amok.

In Atlantis, the citizens, including Caz’s mother, are dying; the war continues, and Caz’s search for Atlantis looks doomed. But the worst is yet to come. In his determination to wrest power from Caz’s mother and punish the citizens of Morphea, Peleus has unwittingly loosed a terrible and deadly force upon the beautiful world and only the sacrifice of someone Caz holds dear can stop it spreading.

Not even the necklace can help Caz now . . .
