Julian Woods died in Sydney on 15 October 1889. After his death, Mary MacKillop wrote an extended account of Julian Woods life. This book was a "labour of love" for Mary and it ensures that Julian Woods extraordinary life story is recorded and available to twentieth-century readers.
But this account is as much about Mary MacKillop as it is about Julian Woods. Her words reveal much of her own character. It is a testimony to her generosity and loyalty. It is also the only remaining extended piece of writing by Blessed Mary of the Cross.
Thee book is history at first hand: observing, quoting, recording incidents and memories not to be found elsewhere. It offers insights to the world of the nineteenth century and reveals two remarkable people who have made an indelible impression upon the church in Australia.
