Joy Dettman was born in Echuca, Victoria, Australia. She now lives in Melbourne. In 1988 Joy did a course in creative writing and this helped to turn a lifelong interest into an obsession. Joy is a full time writer and has published several award winning short stories as well as her best-selling novels Mallawindy, Jacaranda Blue, Goose Girl, Yesterday's Dust and The Seventh Day which have all been critical and commercial successes. Joy is a mother of four and enjoys writing and spending time with family.
