Cynthia Lennon is a survivor - her story of life married to a man adored by millions around the world is honest, loving, painful and moving.

Breaking her self-imposed silence Cynthia talks candidly about life before, with and after John. This is a fascinating examination of rock history as well as a glimpse into an exceptionally talented family.

John and Cynthia Lennon's son, Julian, who has previously spoken very little about his relationship with his father, offers his own contribution in the introduction.

The story of this extraordinary couple began before the onset of the phenomenon of the Beatles, when Cynthia and John met at art college in Liverpool in 1957. His rebellious style, caustic wit and passion for rock and roll already marked him out - especially to Cynthia - and before long they'd fallen in love, married and had a son, Julian. In 1963 (the year Julian was born), the Lennon's moved to London and then to Surrey, as the fame of the Beatles intensified. Their relationship lasted a decade and included those formative and most important years of the Beatles - from the earliest days at the Cavern until their last album together. But by 1968 their marriage was breaking down and they divorced the following year. Julian remained with Cynthia, but saw John in London and later in New York, where he'd moved with his second wife, Yoko Ono.

Cynthia is one of the few and closest witnesses of events that have become music legend. As well as new insight into those Beatles years, Cynthia reveals a compelling personal story of marriage and motherhood alongside a man who was to become the most idolised and admired of all the Beatles. As with all iconic figures, the mythology is often better known than the truth. Her affection undimmed, she is candid about both the cruel and the loving sides of John. She tells of the end of their marriage and the beginning of his relationship with Yoko Ono in more detail than ever before, and reveals the many difficulties faced by herself and Julian following her estrangement from John and his shocking murder. She has had to dig deep and remind herself in every detail of the terrible hurt of the break-up and the horror of John's killing.
