It is 1873, and seventeen-year-old Johanna is leaving Norway with her family to emigrate to New Zealand. Unbroken despite a torrential flood that ravages the district, and a devastating fire that sees their fifteen years of labour destroyed in a single day, Johanna and Christian determinedly battle the elements, poverty and disease. Four of their thirteen children perish, but their courage and faith finally win a more prosperous future for their family.
