It has been years since Jeston Nash and his partner, Quiet Jack Smith, made friends with Chief Red Cloud of the Oglala Sioux. In the passing time, the U.S. Army sent General Custer on an aggressive campaign into Montana to destroy the army of Chief Sitting Bull and his warrior leader, Crazy Horse.
When Nash and Quiet Jack are chased by a posse and separated, Nash finds himself alone on the open plains where the Sioux are gathering in great numbers to fight the Seventh Cavalry. Nash meets Custer on the plains after the General has gone off on his own to hunt buffalo. Custer has gotten lost from his army and accidentally shot his horse in the head. The two share Nash's horse and make it back to Custer's regiment. Custer takes an interest in Nash because he sees that Nash might make a good pitcher for his baseball team. Through conversations Nash decides that Custer is completely out of touch with reality; and he attempts to tell the general what he has learned about the Sioux's way of guerrilla warfare. But Custer sees Nash as just one more apprehensive civilian who doesn't realize the glory awaiting along the valley of the Little Big Horn.
Ralph W Cotton offers up yet another brilliant blend of history, action, and humor in the latest entry in the Jeston Nash series.
