Jenny Nimmo was born in Windsor, Berkshire. She went to a boarding school when she was nine and as she got older she joined a repretory company, Theatre South East, as a working student. She continued working there for 5 years, working in different towns in the south. She was then an experience assistant stage manager and then as juvenile lead. Jenny has had many jobs inluding working for the BBC as a photgraphic researcher. Jenny has always loved reading and writing and soon left the BBC to kick start her career in writing. in 1975 she got her first novel published a few weeks before her daughter was born. Her writings are inspired by Jenny's experience in life. Raising her children meant that Jenny could not write as much as she would have loved. She could only produce short books every other year. When the children grew up and left home she found she could devote all her time writing. She has many fans which she gets to meet at book festivals and school visits.
