Drunken BBC hack George Cragge is in trouble. He is the subject of a disciplinary interview following his less than satisfactory behaviour in the BCC Radio News room. As a wave of bizarre murders sweeps the country - all the victims are bank managers and all are murdered using 1 pound coins - George begins to receive mysterious calls from the killer. With help from Chief Inspector Frank Jefferson, a man whose contempt for criminals is only exceeded by his contempt for criminals is only exceed by his contempt for 'Guardian" readers, it seems that only George can solve the mystery of the bank Manager murders. Meanwhile the Reform party appears to be heading for power as the unsolved murders threaten to topple the government and an elaborate plan to remove the Director-General of the BBC is being hatched.
