The Idea House is the first zero carbon residence in Southeast Asia. It provides an insight into future tropical living by showcasing the latest in sustainable architecture. In response to the increasing depletion of natural resources and escalation of carbon emissions, there has been a concerted global effort to seek built environment solutions that minimise waste, preserve our planet's natural environment and be respectful of local cultures for the benefit of people now, and in the future. The Idea House was conceived to demonstrate the heightening role developers and built environment professionals play in addressing climate change. It is a sustainable prototype house that forms a test bed for new sustainable design ideas and processes, and has involved the collaboration of some of the world's leading technology and solutions providers from the fields of architecture, engineering, landscape design, construction and Information Technology, aswell as from a technologically advanced supply chain. This book documents the process of design required to create a carbon neutral development from inception to completion and records in graphic and photographic detail the results of a sustainable design collaboration to deliver a sustainable product in the form of a house that reduces consumption, generates energy, and is respectful of local socio- cultural practices.
