It's 1989 and Emma Kennedy is planning to go camping again. Together with best friend Bee, Emma is setting off on a classic American road trip, far from parents and responsibilities. It's going to be the adventure of a lifetime, and definitely nothing like the disastrous family holidays of her childhood. With no careful planning whatsoever, Emma and Bee set off from San Francisco bound for New York. However, before long their trip has become a little more Carry On than Kerouac. They survive a minor earthquake, only to get kidnapped by a midget in a Ferrari, and find themselves staying in a house of snakes and incontinent dogs where they suspect they are being used as slave labour. From San Diego to Sant Fe and New Orleans to Washington (accidentally via Florida u oops) I Left My Tent in San Francisco is a hilarious coming-of-age tale, about setting out on the ultimate adventure when you're young, free and very disorganised...
