A unique audio biography of one of the century's best-known and much-loved women. Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother experienced every significant event of the twentieth century including two world wars, the abdication of Edward VIII, the death of her husband, the King, and the coronation of the young Queen Elizabeth.
In these extracts from the BBC archives, those who knew her as the young lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon recall scenes from her childhood, such as playing football in the school playground, and her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert, the future King George VI. A former lady-in-waiting describes how the Queen was removing a fly from the King's eye at the moment when Buckingham Palace was bombed and the Queen Mother herself recalls her busy life during the war. Jockey Dick Francis, who has ridden many of the Queen Mother's horses, pays her a personal tribute.
Introduced by Sue MacGregor, the interviews from the BBC radio archive form a fitting tribute to the richest royal life of the century.
