Just once, Billy would love to be picked first for the school football team - instead of last. But here he is, sitting next to Stinky Carmichael on the sidelines. Billy just can't believe that his being a bit overweight is as objectionable as Stinky's foul breath. After all, Stinky could clean his teeth!
Billy knows that all the kids call him Blubberguts, but when his best friend, Johnny, the team captain, almost blurts out his nickname too, that's the last straw. After school, Johnny comes over to apologise and when he boots a ball to Billy, Billy blocks it. Johnny tries it again, and soon Billy has blocked the ball every time.
