Hugh Dowding was one of the most controversial figure at the centre of the Battle of Britain. Dowding was the commander of RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain and many have credited him with being the mastermind behind the British victory. However, there have also been those throughout history, and at the time, who have argued that Dowding hampered co- ordination of the battle group and that failure to implement the big wing tactic led to more loss of life than was necessary. In Honour Restored Peter Brown, former Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot, offers a careful analysis of the battle and the tactics involved, defending Dowding's command and exposing the conspiracy of senior officers that saw him removed from office without due recognition for his great achievement.
