Exploring the World's Best Cooking
Illustrations by Brian Ma Siy
'Home Food' is a voyage around the world in one cookbook, a journey which puts together dishes reflecting the best of each of the places it visits. Richard Whittington addresses the cultural roots of different cooking styles, putting good food firmly in the national context. 'Home Food' includes more than 250 recipes that people who care about eating well cook for their family and friends.
The far-reaching repertoire of dishes is arranged by country allowing the cook to choose their own menu: Cantonese lunch may be followed by a light Provencal supper. The next day a Tamil vegetarian menu can precede a Moroccan barbecue. After that we may eat a Thai curry on Saturday, a Venezuelan cruzado of poached meats on Sunday. Each is separate from the other but in their random sequence reflects the way we eat today. Throughout, the focus is on ease of preparation, an essential simplicity and a lack of contrivance.
