The first 50 years in the eventful history of a relatively young City Livery Company is celebrated in this new volume. Its late foundation, by comparison with related companies such as the Butchers, Poulters and Woolmen, probably relates to the lack of business interests by farmers in the City of London. This changed after the Second World War, when the Chairman's Committee of the Agricultural Fund of the British Red Cross and the Society of St John decided to establish 'The Company of Agriculturists', later known as the Farmers of the City of London.
