Hard-hitting, sharp-tongued homicide detective Rachel Collazo and her new, skirt-chasing partner Chaz Diablo, get along like oil and water, but they decide to hold off seeking reassignment at least until they resolve their first case - investigating a grieving woman's claim that her cancer-stricken sister died from foul play, not natural causes.
As Rachel and Chaz delve deeper into the case they find that Ashley Merriam is not the only cancer patient to die of a rare pneumonia that is found only among hospital patients. What makes these deaths rarer still is that none of the victims had been in a hospital for months before their deaths; they were all taken care of by private nurses. It's soon clear that what all the patients had in common, aside from their very rich husbands, is nurse Kelly MacLaughlin, a beautiful young Southern Belle with murder on her mind. Rachel and Chaz find themselves inextricably linked to the case as the evidence mounts against Kelly and she turns her deadly sights upon them.
