Porcelain bisque half dolls (also known as teacosy, pincushion or whiskbroom dolls) date back to 1840. They were particularly popular during the 1920s, and today are seeing a revival of interest.
Beth Hill is a well-known ceramics decorator who created her own moulds some years ago. In this book she gives complete instructions for making your own moulds and casting from them; how to paint the fired bisque, and how to dress the dolls. Of course, those who wish just to dress these dolls can work with commercially available half dolls.
The author provides instructions for painting and dressing seventeen dolls, which are then made up into pincushions, feather dusters, a whiskbroom, sewing caddy, tassel, lipstick holder, jug covers, teacosies and boxes, all illustrated in colour.
