With the help of American-Indian spiritual healing, he scraped his soul bare and began replenishing it with something he had regarded as a fatuous notion - love. First towards himself, then towards the new woman in his life, who would become his wife and mother to his children. Briggs turned to boxing and spent four years working his way to the top of the WBC rankings.
