A surprise blizzard dumps more than snow on the steps of Hitchcock Sewell's funeral parlour. It leaves behind the corpse of a murdered waitress as well. The timing is unfortunate - Hitch is in the middle of conducting a wake for one of Baltimore's leading heart-surgeons. But is the venue just a coincidence or is someone making a rather deadly statement?

Once again Hitch finds himself indulging in some amateur sleuthing, but, as his investigation takes him from low-life strip joints to high-tone mansions, he can't help but feel he's in way over his head . . .
