2 Cassettes
Read by Martin Jarvis
Martin Clay needs peace and quiet to write his book on Netherlandish art - and that means the country. However, he is soon distracted by a dinner invitation from neighbour Tony Churt. While at Churt's house, Martin and his wife Kate are asked to look at some paintings that Churt is thinking of selling (avoiding the tax man). Martin duly admires two average pieces. As they were about to leave, their host remembers a third painting. As soon as Martin lays eyes on it Martin feels a jolt of recognition - one that he is careful not to show. Because, if he is right, the work is part of a lost cycle of Bruegel and will be hailed as the discovery of the century. But how will he know if it is genuine? Can he prove it without anyone, least of all Tony Churt, finding out what he is up to?
