Translated by Lucy Crane and illustrated by Walter Crane The Brothers Grimm rediscovered a host of fairy tales, telling of princes and princesses in their castles, witches in their towers and forests, of giants and dwarfs, of fabulous animals and dark deeds. This selection of their folk tales includes firm favourites such as Rapunzel, The Goose Girl, Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel and Snow White. It is illustrated throughout by Walter Crane's charming line drawings. AUTHORS: From a struggling background, Jacob (4th January 1785 ? 20th September 1863) and Wilhelm (24th February 1786 ? 16th December 1859) studied law at university and discovered the love of folk law. They collected many German fairy tales and published them into collections. Jacob was the researcher and Wilhelm turned the stories into a form that would appeal to children. The brothers were also academics, linguists and cultural researchers. Their contribution to German literacy earned them a place on the 1000 Deutche Mark note.
