'Good Weekends Away' presents reviews of properties suitable for weekend breaks. Most of them are in, or within a 2-hour drive of, state capitals. The majority of the 106 properties are in New South Wales and Victoria.
The reviews, written by journalists from the travel sections of 'The Age' and 'The Sydney Morning Herald', cover a mixture of city and country properties. Each review has about 400 words of description, plus a sidebar of vital information (cost, location, contact information, prices, conference facilities if any, ensuite or not, best season to go there, how to get there, whether the place welcomes children or not, whether smoking or non-smoking, wheelchair access, also pluses and minuses of each property). Each property is rated.
These reviews are done in independently by journalists who pay for the accommodation themselves, which ensures that the reviews are unbiased, not advertorials.
The reviews are interspersed with double-page features about things to do in a particular region, or places with a particular slant. 'Top 5' recommendations, which have been compiled for NSW/ACT and VIC only, include drives, dog-friendly properties, family-friendly properties, wheelchair-accessible properties, hotels and romantic holidays. There will also be maps of New South Wales and Victoria so that readers can see where each property is.
